Quoting Other Posts or Offline Content
You can include a quote from another post in your topic messages. This is useful when you want to make it clear that you are replying to a specific message that has been posted. You can also use the quote feature when sending or replying to Private Messages (PMs).

Note: When quoting another member's message, be sure to quote only the specific words to which you are responding, rather than his/her entire message. This conserves space on topic pages and makes your reply much easier to understand.

You can also quote text from other web sites or offline articles. In fact, it is desirable to format other people's words this way to make it clear that you are not plagiarizing their words.

When you format text as a quote, a box appears around the text, and a bold Quote: heading appears above the box, calling attention to the fact that you are quoting someone else's words.

Quotes are created by surrounding the quoted text with opening and closing quote tags in BBCode. There are different ways to do this. Each is explained below.
To quote a post, Private Message, or other content:
• Use the quote icon inside a forum member's message block.
1) Click the quote icon (shown below) in the message block of the message that you want to quote.
Look for a button that looks something like one of these:
or
Note that all of the graphics of icons/buttons shown in this manual are examples of what you should look for. The actual graphic displayed will depend on the style in use by any particular forum and may change if the style changes.
The message creation form appears, and the entire message that you quoted appears in the message authoring text box with the open and closing quote tags surrounding it.
2) Delete the text that need not appear.
Note: It is important to include only the text to which you are responding, to conserve space and enhance comprehension. Do not quote the entire message. If they want to, other members can navigate to the message that you are quoting and read it.
3) Type your response after the ending quote tag, [/quote]. When you preview or post your message, the system automatically places your response on a new line underneath the quote; you don’t have to create the new line manually.
Insert the quote tags, using the BBCode toolbar.
1) Click the New reply icon or New topic icon (examples shown below).

The message creation form appears.
2) Inside the message authoring text box, type your response, and place your cursor in the spot where you want the quote to appear.
3) Type or paste the text you want to quote, select it, and click the Quote button in the formatting toolbar above the authoring text box.
Open and closing quote tags surround the selected text.
Tips:
Instead, you can click the Quote button to insert the open quote tag, type or paste the quoted text, then click the Quote button again to insert the closing quote tag.
Instead, you can type the tags manually around the text. Type [quote] before the quoted text and [/quote] after the quoted text.
To name the person you are quoting, type ="Person's Name" in the open quote tag, making sure you enclose the name in quotation marks (shown below).
Example: [quote="Mary"]Quoted text goes here[/quote]
To reply to multiple points that a member has made, break them up into multiple quotes, typing your responses underneath each one.
Be sure to click the Preview button to view the results before submitting the message to ensure that it appears the way you intend and that you no quote tags were accidentally omitted.
