 Inserting Images
You can insert images into your messages. However, there is no way at the present time to upload images directly to the forum server. Therefore, if you want to insert an image, you must store it on a publicly accessible web server that someone could view if he/she entered a specific web address in the browser.

Tip: Currently, you can get a free account at web sites such as http://www.photobucket.com or http://imageshack.us to upload your images. We recommend that you write down the web addresses of the images you upload for future reference.

!!! Warning: It is very important not to insert images that are wider than 450 pixels. Wide images "stretch" the column on the page where your message is displayed, requiring other members to scroll horizontally to read the messages there.
To insert images:
1) Upload the image you want to display to a publicly accessible web server.
2) In the message that you are typing in the message creation form, place your cursor in the spot where you want the image to appear.
3) Type the entire web address of the image, starting with http:// and ending with the file name of the image.
Example: http://www.sitename.com/yourusername/image.jpg
Note: You cannot use links to images that are stored behind authentication mechanisms, such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected site pages, and so forth. See the Tip at the top of this message for suggestions about where to upload your images.
4) Select the web address that you typed in step 3.
5) From the formatting toolbar (shown below), click the Img button.
BBCode image tags appear around the web address.
Example: [img]http://www.yoursitename.com/mypictures/image.jpg[/img]
6) Click the Preview button to view the results.
Note: It is particularly important that you preview messages that contain links to images to make sure that the image you have included in your message is not too large. Images should not be more than 450 pixels wide.
Another tip:
Say you have a picture you want to use in a message;

http:/foobar.com/JulieNewmar.jpg

Now, if you just link it to your message, you immediately start stealing bandwidth from foobar.com. This is not a nice thing to do as some websites pay for every byte they transfer.

If you change that URL a little;

http://foobar.com.nyud.net:8090/JulieNewmar.jpg

Note that you include .nyud.net:8090 AFTER the domain name and before the first "/"

It then uses a free public caching service. It gets fetched ONCE from the original domain, and they are not made bankrupt as each other person views the pictures.

You still need to use the [img] [/img] tags around the link.

It helps to preview the posting before you hit submit as this gets the caching service to do the initial fetch of the picture, which can be slow, before your posting appears to the public. Sometimes you need to wait a few minutes and re-preview it before everything will appear as it should, and some web servers will not play ball with the cache, and this is how you weed those out.

If you preview a couple of times and the images still don't show up, then you can't use this cache trick for that image and you will need to use the instructions at the beginning of this page.
